The Veterans Administration (VA) is putting out a call for feedback from industry on its plan to standardize the agency’s Human Resources (HR) IT systems. The agency’s request for information (RFI), posted Dec. 11, asks for comment by Jan. 14, 2021.

The RFI asks for input on VA’s plans to stand up and support an agency-wide “VA Authoritative Human Resources (HR) and Personnel Data System (HR·Smart).”

“The VA expects to see transaction counts increase as personnel numbers and capabilities grow,” the announcement says. “Continued standardization of HR Information Technology (IT) across the VA enterprise is necessary to streamline execution of the Human Capital (HC) lifecycle and employee experience and to improve VA s ability to compete across the public and private recruitment and talent acquisition landscape.”

While VA’s current HR IT management system is described in the RFI as “modern” and “up-to-date,” the agency anticipates having to manage transactions for upwards of 400,000 employees soon. Therefore, VA is including a potential system migration in its five-year Roadmap.

The RFI seeks input from HR IT professionals on the proposed plan, along with where they see the future of HR IT going in the next five to 10 years. VA also asks commenters to list any potential risks of moving to a new system and mitigation options for tackling them.
